Sensei Tony Ong's martial arts journey began in 1970s Singapore with Goju-Ryu, winning two YMCA Tournament titles (Kata & Kumite). He co-founded West Coast Goju-Ryu Dojo in 1984 before military service. Relocating to Australia in 1986, he competed in the historic 1987 First Goju-Ryu International Tournament. In the 1990s, he moved to Japan, transitioning to Shotokan under legendary Master Tetsuhiko Asai. From 1993–1995, he proved his elite level—becoming Kumite Champion and Kata Runner-Up in Japan's competitive circuit. Today, his lifetime of international excellence is recognised with master-level dual certifications: 7th Dan (JKS) and 6th Dan (JKA)—a rare achievement bridging two major karate federations.
